Heatwaves, Mental Health and Wellbeing

As a result of climate change, temperatures continue to magnify during summer months. Extreme heat and heat dome events are some of the fastest-growing climate health and wellbeing hazards for communities around the world. For many, heatwaves can increase experiences of stress, anxiety, irritability, exhaustion, heatstroke and even loss of life.

Along with advocating for systems changes that address emissions and systems increasing extreme heat events, it is important to discuss how inequitable and unjust systems intersect with how people experience of extreme heat events.

Sharing and talking about heat impacts and different levels of coping strategies can help expand community resilience, safety and tackling heatwaves collectively. ☀️
