UBC’s Campus Vision 2050 plan is the UBC community’s opportunity to (re)imagine the university campus and community of the future to help foster an environment that enables us to thrive. Your ideas, perspective, hopes, dreams and concerns are critically valued and wanted as part of this process.
10 years have passed since UBC’s administration last updated its Vancouver campus plans. Since then, the campus, Vancouver community, and wider global context have evolved substantially around issues of climate change, expanding inequity, ecological strain, the COVID-19 pandemic and more. As such, it is important that future campus visions meaningfully address and center the ongoing climate emergency and the needs, interests, knowledge and leadership of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm nation, upon whose stolen lands UBC resides upon.
Campus Vision 2050 is a comprehensive land-use planning process aiming to engage students, faculty, staff, residents and local Indigenous communities on how the campus will evolve over the next 30 years. The (re)imagining process will take place over the next 2.5 years, with the intended outcomes of an updated Land Use Plan¹, 10-year Campus Plan², and a 30-year Campus Vision (a high-level, long-term description of the campus).
The Campus Vision 2050 pre-planning process identified aspirations for the future of the UBC campus, organized under eight highly interconnected themes:
On January 20th, 2022, UBC launched the first phase of Campus Vision 2050, which focuses on exploring the needs and aspirations related to each of these themes as well as identifying synergies and tensions between them.
Students presently have the unique opportunity to provide input on how they see each of these themes taking shape on UBC’s future campus, as feedback will guide the subsequent campus planning process and influence the options considered for UBC’s future.
Opportunities to help shape UBC’s future campus are now open and will run from January 20th, 2022 until February 17th, 2022. Feedback will be used to guide the rest of the Campus Vision 2050 process and shape the university’s physical presence moving forward.
There are several ways to provide input and feedback (explained in greater detail on the Campus Vision 2050 website):
1. Drop a pin on the Campus Map.
2. Fill out the Needs and Aspirations Survey.
3. Post on the Ideas Boards for a particular theme.
4. Ask a question on the Q&A board.
Campus Vision 2050 is also hosting a variety of events in the upcoming weeks:
