An update on the Climate Hub Team:
Liam Orme will be moving on from his role as Climate Hub Coordinator as of July 16, 2021. We are grateful for his commitment and dedication to this role over the last two years, and before that as a Co-founder of the Climate Hub. While a major transition for our small team, regular renewal is an important part of the Climate Hub model, as we strive to create a dynamic and accessible platform for youth leadership on climate justice.
Which means: we’re now hiring a new full-time Coordinator! The Coordinator is the staff lead for the Climate Hub. The Coordinator is responsible for team coordination and resourcing, is accountable to the Hub’s student leadership, and reports to the leadership of our host unit within UBC, USI.
The role has been posted on UBC’s job board (link below), and will be open for applications until June 17, 2021. A selection committee will conduct interviews in late June. We are aiming to ensure 2 weeks of overlap for transition and onboarding in July.
As an initiative founded and led by students, we would strongly encourage interested members of our community, recent graduates, and members of the wider community of youth climate justice leaders, to apply. Please share!
“It’s hard to overstate just how much the Climate Hub community, and the opportunity to serve in this role, have meant to me. This role has provided a platform to learn-by-doing as we mobilize for bold and systemic action for climate justice at UBC and beyond. My experiences with the Climate Hub have deeply shaped me.
I learned a lot helping to launch UBC’s climate emergency declaration and deliver the subsequent community engagement process. This experience proved to me the challenges and the necessity of mobilizing for institutional change to address the climate emergency in a way that recognizes its root causes and intersecting issues.
Starting in this role right after graduating from UBC in 2019, I was nervous, but excited. It has been challenging, to be sure, but I am profoundly grateful for the opportunities to learn from this community and those who have supported us along the way.
As I begin a new chapter, I look forward to first resting and reflecting, then exploring avenues to support compassionate, just, and community-driven transitions to sustainable futures. I look forward to following along as the Climate Hub continues to evolve, and continuing to support this community that has so deeply supported me.”
Applications can be completed through UBC's jobs portal. The deadline to apply is June 17, 2021.
