Climate Hub update message: July 2025

The Climate Hub launched in 2018 to advance student-led climate justice programming at UBC, supported by funding from the President’s Office and UBC’s Climate Emergency Fund. Over the next five years, the Climate Hub developed a number of highly successful projects and programs to provide climate justice leadership experiences for UBC students.

Throughout 2023 and 2024, Climate Hub student staff and volunteers explored multiple options to maintain these programs following the end of the Climate Emergency Fund. In November 2024, the Sustainability Student Council – serving as the Climate Hub Student Advisory Committee – recommended integrating UBC Climate Hub programs into the UBC Sustainability Hub’s existing student engagement programs.

UBC Sustainability Hub is pleased to continue offering students opportunities to engage with climate justice leadership at UBC. These include previous UBC Climate Hub run programs: the Youth Climate Ambassadors and Climate Wellbeing Engagement Network (incorporated into the Sustainability Ambassadors program), and the Climate Teaching Connector. In addition, the UBC Sustainability Hub offers many other opportunities for students including the Sustainability Scholars, Catalyst Program, and UBC’s COP Delegation. All climate and sustainability clubs are also invited to participate in the Sustainability Student Council, which provides input and feedback on UBC sustainability initiatives.

Beyond the programs currently offered, the UBC Sustainability Hub continuously evaluates how to best support student education, experiential learning, work-integrated learning and student leadership to advance sustainability and climate goals. We welcome and invite input from UBC students on future opportunities.
